Freight Infrastructure & Freight Insurance

Infrastructure-United-States-Under-Construction-600x345

Building a Stronger America project was released on February 12, 2018. The project emphasizes third main points which is to build fast, build for the people, and build for the future.

Building Fast:

The Administration proposes a $1.5 trillion investment to correct America’s crumbling infrastructure and prepare America for better opportunities. The goal would be to fix the infrastructure deficit if Congress approves this legislation. “We will fix the broken permit process, so America can become a global infrastructure leader.” An example they used was when the Empire State Building was constructed it only took a year. Now to get an approval for a highway it takes at least 10 years. The permitting and approval process needs to be less than two years.

Building for the People:

The Administration would like to remove from the Federal Government the decision making of the projects. They would like to put into States hands this decision. The plan would delegate $100 billion to the use of State, local, and private investment.

Building for the Future:

$50 billion would be dedicated to the rural areas of America to address unique infrastructure challenges, rebuilding and modernizing bridges, roads, water and wastewater assets, water resources, waterways, power generation assets, and broadband. $20 billion would spur competition around bold, innovative, and transformative infrastructure projects to improve future infrastructure. The proposal would be committed to generate new projects that would increase employment and boost the demand for labor.

What impacts would this project have on the freight industry? Would it increase the demand for freight and make the transportation for freight quicker? Would this be a positive impact on the livelihood of millions through the US? Not only will there be an increase in freight transport but the need to protect this freight while in transit will be an integral part of freight transport. Freight Insurance has always been the most import part when transporting freight. Freight Insurance minimizes the risk and freight insurance demand has increased by billions of dollars every year. Drone Shipping & Shipping Insurance

Drone-TA-674480931A drone is an unmanned aerial vehicle also called UAV, which can transport packages, food or other goods. And they have multiple uses.

The first attempts to commercialize the UAV was in 2015, but FAA did not approve the regulation. When the FAA found out that the drones could transport medicines and vaccines, and retrieve medical samples, they approved it quickly. The drone delivered to a rural part of Virginia medical clinic in a program called “Let’s Fly Wisely”. It’s already been used in Rwanda and Tanzania to deliver blood samples and pharmaceutical products.

In 2016, with further developments of the drone, the UAV delivered its first meal. The project was with Santa Casa da Misericordia de Penela and Penela Town Hall. They delivered to Joaquim dos Reis. Dominio’s Pizza attempted to delivery pizza in England. New Zealand is already receiving it’s Dominio’s Pizza via drone. And Chipotle is already testing drone delivery.

Postal services all around the world have been testing the drone. From France La Poste to South Korea CJ Express, more and more companies are testing the viability of the UAV. Boeing announced in 2018 that they created a prototype of a cargo drone for up to 500lbs. And now Amazon has announced that it won’t take long for SWA (Shipping with Amazon) to use the drone for delivery services.

As technology brings new advancements to cargo and freight transport so the growing need for freight and shipping insurance and as the industry evolves so will our insurance policy will modify according to meet the needs of the demanding market of the freight industry.

Valentine’s Day Shipping

According to Society of American Florists, 35% of Americans will purchase flowers this year amounting to $2 billion in sales. Most of the flowers will be coming from Bogota, Colombia. With UPS the leading provider for flower transportation, they are expecting to deliver at least 88 million flowers this year. From Latin America through the Miami International Airport, the flowers get distributed to their destination.

Flowers are not the only thing people are buying today. According to the National Retail Federation, consumers will spend about $19.6 billion on gifts for Valentine’s Day. Whether it was planned spending or last-minute spending, Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest periods. For example, FedEx expects to ship millions of pounds of flowers, chocolates, jewelry and other gifts, making hundreds of thousands of deliveries on top of its average daily volume of 9 million shipments. They added extra flights and trucks to accommodate for the demand this year.

It’s important to have shipping insurance coverage to make sure that your goods not only arrive on time but safe. Vintage Heart Valentines Day Card

Additional Insurance & Cargo Liability

Do you know what the difference is between cargo insurance and cargo liability insurance? Unfortunately, not many people know the big difference in cargo insurance and contingent cargo insurance or liability.

Cargo liability is insurance for motor truck cargo insurance on freight or goods that are hauled by a for hire trucker. This applies to general freight. This insurance covers the liability of cargo that is damaged or lost due to fire, collision, or striking of a load. If you are looking to start your trucking business, cargo liability insurance is essential and mandatory by the D.O.T to operate. This provides you protection to start your operation regardless of the commodity or goods that you are transporting.
